1. Shipping charges apply to the weight of the packaged item. Therefore, you should take photos of the item, package it and only then list it for auction and shipping. It's also a good idea to submit the weight and dimension of the package on the site, along with the photos of the product and its dimensions. 

 

2. Always have a stock of packaging supplies ready. If you auction items frequently, it's a good idea to be prepared for packaging. Therefore save any cardboard box that you get, or any element of polystyrene packaging from other products, to package the items that you sell. Also, you can purchase packaging consumables online. Some of the auction sites sell such packaging material. 

 

3. Opting for quick shipment is also important. When you buy something online, I'm pretty sure you want to enter its possession as soon as possible. Therefore, if you sell stuff, don't keep your buyers waiting. 

 

4. Consider offering shipping insurance. Of course, if you're shipping a toothpaste tube, insurance won't be necessary. But if you're shipping valuable items, especially fragile items, or items with a high degree of perishability, it's not a bad idea to offer some sort of insurance when shipping them. Typically, auction sites like eBay offer shipping insurance policies and you can buy one for a certain product.

 

5. Last but not least, you should package anything you sell with care, just as you want an item to be packaged for you. Use enough packing material, use a sturdy box, and use enough duct tape to make sure the whole package is durable and secure.
